wagamama believe in true nourishment from bowl to soul and that the quality of your life is greatly determined by the quality of your food and the consumption choices you make… so it pays to be fussy about food!
Inspired by fast-paced, Japanese ramen bars, wagamama was born in 1992 in Bloomsbury, London and now with over 150 venues across the globe, they really are taking the world by storm.
wagamama's recipes were created to make you feel both rejuvenated and satisfied, combining a base of rice or noodles for energy, healthy protein and fats to sustain you, crunch veg to nourish you, and of course lots of flavour from their spices and broths. Their food is made fresh to order in their open kitchens, meaning each dish is served as soon as its ready so that individuals get to eat it nice and hot. Guests eat at their open benches, part of the relaxed environment they’re famous for.
'Kaizen’, meaning ‘good change’ is the philosophy that wagamama live by and it’s one of the reasons that sustainability is so important to them.
In 2017, wagamama launched their vegan menu. Fast forward to today and 50% of their menu is plant-based. They are also committed to sourcing 100% of their eggs from cage-free sources by the end of 2025.
When it comes to reducing plastic, they’re working on new initiative ‘bowl bank’ in their Brighton and Winchester restaurants, allowing guests to return their take-away bowls to a restaurant, which ensures they will get commercially recycled. In exchange, guests can get a voucher for a side dish! They plan to bring ‘bowl bank’ to every restaurant in the UK but are starting with areas where plastic is currently burnt rather than recycled.
In addition to their takeaway items, in the future they plan to look into the sustainability of all of their brand materials including uniforms, placemat/menus, chopsticks and napkins.
