Want to find out if you’re in the majority when it comes to what you think about pineapple pizza? You’ve come to the right place! We recently put out a survey to address some of the most common food opinions, and find out how our assessors opinions align with these. From the almighty Marmite debate, to how you season your chips, there's plenty of food for thought!
Thanks to everyone who got involved – we had a lot of fun reading through your responses!
To some tastebuds, minty flavours feel more like dental care than dessert, whilst others just aren't into the oh-so-fresh taste.
– but that wasn’t the case for most of you! 74% of you are team mint-choc-chip, with only 22% opting for a different ice cream flavour.
Interestingly, 4% of you haven't tried it at all!
A truly divisive question of the nation, and this was also the case here – aside from the 15% of you who have never tasted the "black gold", 37% are firmly in the “hate it” camp, whilst 48% of our assessors are pro-Marmite!
Fun fact: love it or loathe it, a 2011 study suggests your genes could be calling the shots on whether you enjoy this polarising spread!
The ultimate food debate… does pineapple belong on pizza?
This usually splits people down the middle, but our survey revealed a clear winner – with almost 70% of the vote (drumroll please...) step forward, team pineapple!
Better luck next time, pineapple opposers!
You could argue that since a hot dog is a filling between two bits of bread, it is, by default, firmly under the “sandwich” category – but many of you disagree! 72% of you stand firm that a hot dog is a hot dog, and that’s that!
... and really, who can blame you – imagine finding a hot dog in the grab-and-go sandwich section at Pret?!
Do people have strong opinions on how they have their custard?
Our assessors certainly do! 53% of you prefer your custard heated up, whilst 32% will have some jam roly poly or apple crumble with custard right from the fridge.
Of course, not everyone is a custard fan – 16% of you are opting for no custard at all!
Oysters have provided us with an almost perfectly even three-way split between love, hate, and never tried.
It isn’t surprising that 34% of us haven’t had them, what with their fancy reputation and price point - but with 37% disliking them, oyster lovers are in the minority here.
Ah, the affogato. A scoop of vanilla ice cream with espresso poured over the top of it.
In the realm of sweet debates, some argue that this Italian delicacy is a beverage, but among our assessors, this only makes up 18% of opinions.
The other 82% of you are perfectly happy to see an affogato on the dessert menu!
Salt, vinegar, or both? Everyone certainly has their preferences, but in this instance, exactly 50% of you are opting for salt and vinegar – the best of both worlds!
However, salt on its own isn’t far behind, receiving 44% of the rest of the votes. 4% of you like them plain, and just 2% are choosing vinegar only.
Seems salt is the MVP here!
There are endless pairings to have with a good ol' portion of chips. Whether you’re piling on the mushy peas, or dipping them in a generous dollop of ketchup, for many people, chips are the ultimate comfort food.
A point of contention? Whether gravy is strictly reserved for roast dinners, or if it's a chip's best friend? This one was fairly close, with 42% of you standing by this classic Northern duo!
If you’ve not tasted this French dish, you’re not alone!
In fact, 39% of our assessors have never tried steak tartare, and a further 26% aren't fans of this chilled-beef-specialty.
As a raw meat and egg yolk pairing, it's easy to see why this might not be to everyone’s taste – but 35% of you are enthusiasts!
Another French classic, but this time, almost 60% of you are in favour!
Whether you’re spreading your pâté on toast or adding it to your charcuterie, over half of you are fans – with a considerably smaller 23% of you are skipping the rich spread.
... not forgetting the 18% of you who have never tried it!
At the end of our survey, we also asked if you had any of your own controversial food opinions - whether you're baffled by popular choices or have your own unique combinations!
Almost 60 of you responded – here are some of our favourites:
🍅 "Ketchup and mayo mixed together as the perfect dip!"
🍫 "Penguin bars with soya sauce."
🥪 "To enjoy sandwiches, they must be cut into 2 triangles."
🍞 "Chocolate spread on bread... yuk!"
🧀 "Ice cream and cheese - a winner."
🥖 "Ryvita topped with marmite and cottage cheese."
🫘 "Cold baked beans - delicious!"
🥜 "Peanut butter and pineapple jam sandwiches."
🥕 "Carrot and melted chocolate."
🍮 "I love hot mint custard on chocolate sponge cake!"
Hmm… should we start a cookbook?
Your responses were so interesting to read and analyse, so thanks again if you got involved – we hope you enjoyed it as much as we did... until next time!
